I’m hearing and seeing the impacts of post-pandemic hokey-pokey and the focus away from a career to other more important things for people. With Christmas breaks ahead, you may be turning your mind to wondering what that is for you. It usually sounds something like:
I know I want to do something different but I want to make it count.
While I get the theme of doing the ‘stuff’ that really matters, for each of us (I wrote a blog about a few months back – the ‘I am not waiting anymore’ vibe), I can see the pressure that making it count is adding to the burden that some us feel we have already been carrying for some time. And it’s easy to get lost in the options and other people’s ‘thing’.
So, here are some thought starters to help explore what ‘counts’ for you so you can then go do it, rather than get lost in the options:
- Where is the idea of ‘making it count’ coming from?
- ‘Count’ by who’s definition? Yours, society, your family, friends?
- What does ‘count’ feel like?
- What is getting in the way? It means letting go of things that do not count anymore…
And, here is what I have learned in over 25yrs of helping people lead and land better change
For their team, their business and themselves: if you are not ready to get in the arena and start working out your purpose, it’s hard to make anything really count. You may work hard but it may not count in the way that deeply matters to you… now.
